Finding out that a friend or family member self-harms is often a daunting and sometimes scary experience. It's not easy to know what to do or what to say, and this is what holds back a lot of us when supporting those who self-harm.


Fear of making things worse, anger, feeling upset and being confused are common feelings that can impact how we react to our loved ones in this situation.


Satveer Nijjar is a self-harm public speaker and trainer, who works nationally to deliver advice, workshops, conferences and speeches on the issue. Here, she shares her advice on what to do if a friend or family member tells you they self-harm.
